Luxe Salon

I'm going to preface this post by saying that my kiddos broke my laptop again so I'm posting from my ipad and it sucks to blog on! I cant figure out how to type between the photos, so I'm just going to have to tell you about them and you can look after you read. If someone could help me out (Charon) that would be fantastic!

I realize that I'm really really late!!!! But oh well Ha! I finally graduated from Evans in September. So glad I did it!!!!!!!!! I started working at Luxe Salon the Tuesday after graduation. I seriously cannot say enough good things about this salon. I met the owner while I was in school when she was nice enough to let me interview her for a project. After doing a lot of research into salons in town, including doing some scouting, I decided this was the place for me! It has been a blast! There are 8 stations, but only 5 are filled. Four of us are full time; the fifth works a couple days a week. We also have a full time nail tech. Everyone has been so nice to help me out if I'm unsure of something. I'm confident on my technique, but I chose a different color line than I used at Evans and thankfully, one of the other stylists uses Joico as well. She has been so kind and willing to help me out or offer a suggestion if she thinks that a color won't work the way that I think it's going to. She doesn't have to do this and in most salons they wouldn't! I'm very appreciative.

There isn't any drama! Everyone acts like adults and treats each other respectfully. Even though its a booth rent salon and we're all trying to make our own living, everyone still works as a team. This is a rare thing in this business, from what I hear.

I can honestly say that my favorite thing about the salon is that there is so much for me to learn there. The overwhelming majority of hairdressers in Cedar went to Evans. Certainly not a bad thing! Except that means that very hairdresser in town learned the exact same techniques. Here, everyone went somewhere else. NONE OF US ARE FROM UTAH! Janelle went to school in So. Cal., Lindsey went to school in Dallas and Pete went to school in Vegas. Jessika and I are the only ones that went to Evans. I know this doesn't seem like a big deal, but when you work in a place (any profession) where everyone learned the exact same thing you did, how do you grow? Where do you get your fresh ideas and little extra tips and tricks? Hair school is about learning the basics. Evans is great for that!!!!!! But I have learned almost as much sitting there watching them work in my down time as I did in a year at school.
Sooooooo...here are pics (they're jumbled up and I can't figure out how to fix them. Also, click on the picture to see the whole thing)
1)my graduating class
2)our retail/ waiting area
3)our shampoo area (love love love the adjustable bowls)
4)our supplies are hidden behind our mirrors. Keeps things nice and tidy.
5)view from the entrance (the cabinets on the back wall are our "lockers". We keep all of our dispense items back there)
6)the reception desk (I'm in love with this mirror)
7) our stations
8) the exterior of the building

So there you have it folks! The cutest salon in town! (Ok so I'm a little biased).

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween to everyone!!!! The kids are so excited!!!!! Preston is a "minion" from Despicable Me, Morgan is a zombie and Shelby is some kind of dead rockstar. (Truthfully, what she is changes every time you ask her!) Max even got in on the dress up action! He wasn't nearly as thrilled as the kids about it haha.

Happy Birthday Shelby

Shelby turned 11 last week... Where has the time gone? All she wanted was a puppy. We stopped at the animal shelter on a whim; more to see if they knew of anyone selling puppies than anything. Well the whole family fell in love with this little dog. He's a 2 year old corgi/spaniel mix. She decided he was the one for her. His name is Max. He's been such a good little dog. He's TERRIFIED of Chris which makes us think he must have been abused at some point. But he loves the rest of us HA! My only 2 complaints are that he likes to chew on things (so lots of chew toys are required) and even though he's completely house broken, he likes to go on my welcome mat. (I now need a new one) At least it's outside right? Other than that, he's the sweetest, quietest dog ever. He LOVES Shelby and Shelby adores him. And yes, she dresses him in clothes and bathes him in Paul Mitchell Pet shampoo. Chris says "GD... You guys don't want a dog you want a damn fashion accessory". Hahaha.

Summer Fun

So maybe I'm a little late...or a lot! Ha! We spent quite a bit of time at the city pool this summer. The girls have learned the art of sunbathing. Ok so maybe it's not exactly an art... but whatever.... they did learn that you have to move around a little bit to avoid burning. So they kept me pretty darn entertained.
They decided to take the time to work out... in case swimming didn't burn enough calories. And Morgan kept everyone around us entertained with her belly rolling.
Where was Preston? Um... the boy took 2 lessons and suddenly thought he was the next Michael Phelps. He didn't stay out of the water long enough to get any pictures. HA!

Chemical/Physical Changes

Shelby has a science project due on Monday. She is TERRIFIED to stand in front of her class to present the project, so we decided to video it. (I'll never understand why she can dance all by herself in front of 1,000 people at a competition, but she can't talk by herself in front of 30 people. Silly girl!)
For those of you that don't have a 5th grader yet... start studying now!!

Better Late Than Never

This is old news, but I was going through my camera and found these pictures. Shelby had an opportunity to go to a dance clinic taught by a few dancers on "So You Think You Can Dance". She had a blast and was so excited to meet "famous people". Twitch is in the "Step Up" movies, so when we saw "Step Up Revolution" she got Soooooo excited!
It was actually a really good clinic. There was only about 50 kids in her age group, so she was able to get a lot of personal instruction.

Kanara Falls

Chris came up with an idea to go hiking for a relaxing day off.... I liked my idea of sitting around doing nothing all day but whatever... I'm all for trying something new hahaha. It's only a couple miles, but we all seriously thought we were going to die! The kids had a lot of fun and it ended up being a great family outing!

First day of school

The kids have been SO excited to start school... Needless to say... So have I! Ha! We started our activities on Sunday with our annual fashion show. I made Preston's fave dinner Wednesday and Shelby's fave breakfast on Thursday. After lots of primping and lots of pictures... They were off!
I can't believe they are in 2nd, 4th and 5th grade!!! This is my baby's last year of elementary school... Time has gone by WAY too fast!! The girls are even starting to worry about fashion trends. Hence the butt pictures to show Grandma and all the Aunts their cool jeans HA!... As a side note.. They're learning that sometimes beauty=pain. They both say that the bejeweled pockets hurt to sit on all day. Is that stopping them from wearing them? NOPE! :-)
Preston couldn't care less about school or how he looks. He's just excited to do math and play at recess... Such a boy! He has the same teacher that the girls had for 2nd grade (LOVE LOVE LOVE HER) She sent a math sheet home with him on the 1st day. I remember the girls somewhat struggling with it. He SMOKED it! He said "I hope 2nd grade math gets harder than this or else I'm gonna get bored fast" HAHA! Don't think that will be a problem.

Flinstones Gone Wild

We had  a group project at school that required us to style a models hair and makeup for a Runway Show. This was, by far, my favorite project!!!! Our theme was "Flinstones Gone Wild" and my friend Amy was kind enough to let her daughter, Maddi, model for us. She was supposed to be Pebbles all grown up. It didn't exactly turn out the way we'd envisioned, but she was still cute.  I did the makeup and Jessica did the hair.

Morgan got roped into being a model for another group. She was a "Vintage Pin Up Girl"... fully clothed... I have video of her walking the runway, but she's just a blur because she literally RAN down the runway. HA! She had fun though!!! I'll post some better pics of her when i get them.

Tennis

Preston has been begging me for over a year to let him try tennis. We finally got him into some classes through the city. He's having a blast and he's quite sure that he could take on the pros. HAHA

Summer Games

It's time for the summer games again! We got trampled one year, so I refuse to go to the opening ceremonies ever again! Instead, we watch the fireworks from a church parking lot a block away. The kids are totally satisfied with this and that's all that really matters to me.
(I forgot my camera, so you guys will have to settle for cell phone pics... sorry)
